The Charioteer - Mary Renault

Ralph Lanyon, Laurie Odell

Ship likes: Ralph/Laurie is OTP for me!

The Charioteer is one of my all-time favorite books, and a perennial request for me as I can never get enough of stories set in this universe. I would love any story about these characters - pre-canon backstories, missing moments during the book, canon-divergent AUs, domestic fluff, plot-driven fic, shameless smut, snapshots of their lives during or after the war, etc. All I really ask is a) no character deaths for either character, b) Ralph and Laurie are still together by the end (unless it’s a pre-canon fic), and c) the conclusion is relatively happy/hopeful (however, angsty endings are fine for fics that take place pre-canon or during the events of the book).

Possible ideas:

- Anything exploring Ralph's relationship with his family and his strict religious upbringing, and how that impacted his feelings about his sexuality (as well as his feelings for Laurie). What were the holidays like at home for him? How did his parents react when he came home after his expulsion? This could also be Ralph telling Laurie about it in the present or recalling memories when they are more settled in their relationship.

- A school story with Ralph and Laurie - perhaps their first meeting, Ralph coaching Laurie for the Hamlet duel, Ralph watching Laurie in swimming (or Laurie watching Ralph in cricket or fencing), etc. Or a canon-divergent AU where Ralph and Laurie become friends during school and Ralph doesn't hook up with Hazell or get expelled.

- Ralph temporarily being missing-in-action/captured/presumed (but not actually) dead at some point during the war, and Alec helping Laurie cope through it. Or Ralph escaping from a POW camp and afterwards returning home to Laurie.

- Ralph and Laurie learning to navigate their shared life together, and Laurie becoming more familiar with the Bridstow gay community (perhaps even acquiring a slightly more sympathetic view of its members than Renault allowed).

- In general I'd love to see more of Ralph and Laurie's post-canon interactions with the Bridstow queer set. Give me all the gossip, drama, and cattiness!

- Hurt/comfort fic with Ralph showing some sort of vulnerability (or discussing some prior traumatic experience), Laurie offering comfort to Ralph, and Ralph learning to accept it.

- Something that more explicitly fills in one of the fade-to-black moments in the novel (e.g. "come and say goodbye to me," wedding night, "conditions best suited of all to unreserve," Laurie's vivid sexual dream about Ralph that was "too direct to fascinate an analyst"). Or a post-canon intimate scene between Ralph and Laurie.

- Lucy Odell bonding with Ralph during one of his visits with Laurie.

- Anything exploring Ralph and Laurie's respective careers after the war - I'd love to see them both finding occupations that are personally fulfilling to them, whatever that may be.

DNWs: non-canonical major character deaths, rape/sexual assault (references to past sexual trauma are okay), infidelity (other than references to canon/canon-typical infidelity), unrequested polyamory, domestic abuse, unhappy/tragic endings (angsty endings okay for pre-canon or mid-canon fic), breaking up Ralph/Laurie in post-canon fic, focus on romance for unrequested pairings (mentions of canon established couples like characters' parents are okay), AUs that take place outside of the canon setting, A/B/O.

Hilary Tamar Mysteries - Sarah Caudwell

Julia Larwood, Selena Jardine, Desmond Ragwort, Michael Cantrip

Ship likes: I am very much a multi-shipper with respect to this fandom and am open to various permutations and poly arrangements (in no particular order): Julia/Selena, Selena/Sebastian, Julia/Selena/Sebastian, Ragwort/Cantrip, Julia/Ragwort, Julia/Cantrip, Julia/Ragwort/Cantrip, Julia/Selena/Ragwort/Cantrip, Ragwort/Terry Carver. I adore the friendships among these four characters and would be happy with a gen/friendship fic as well!

These books are always a huge comfort read for me, and I'd just love a light-hearted story in the same delightfully whimsical vein as the novels. There's so little fic out there I'd be happy with almost anything, really: shippy fic, gen or friendship fic, casefic, workplace shenanigans, holiday/seasonal fic, smut, you name it. I love all these characters deeply - all their humor and ridiculous capers, their hyper-competence at their professions, and their marked affection for each other - and I would be thrilled with a story about any one of them. Also you may take this as an OR request and do not need to include every character I requested.

Possible ideas:

- Fake dating for a case! Possibly involving Julia/Selena, Julia/Ragwort, or Ragwort/Cantrip.

- I really adore Selena and Sebastian's canon relationship, especially the glimpse of it we get in The Shortest Way to Hades. Perhaps more of their sailing adventures, background into how they met and got together, and/or Selena using Sebastian as an "instrument of sensual gratification" (to quote Ragwort)?

- Selena pining in secret for Julia, who is very much oblivious, and them getting together over the course of a case.

- Ragwort finally agrees to a date with Julia - how does it go?

- Anything about Julia and Cantrip when they were dating, up to and including the infamous spider incident on April 1. Or the two of them working on that ridiculous novel they were writing together in The Sirens Sang of Murder.

- Honestly anything focused on Ragwort and Cantrip's relationship or Julia and Selena's relationship, whether as friends, friends with benefits, or boyfriends/girlfriends.

- Julia, Selena, and Ragwort when they were students at Oxford under Hilary's tutelage (and perhaps a run-in with a certain Cambridge student).

- Hilary and the barristers working on a case together or relaxing outside of work.

- I was honestly kind of shipping Ragwort with Terry Carver in The Sibyl in Her Grave, so perhaps more of their relationship, whether platonic or romantic? (Bonus points for Terry's drag/cross-dressing habit.)

- Anything with supernatural/magical realism elements!

- One of my favorite parts of the series is when Julia and Selena inadvertently get high at the orgy in The Shortest Way to Hades, and how Selena's way of giving in to pleasure is sitting alone on the sofa reading Pride and Prejudice. :D I'd love to see another take on an orgy scene with these characters (with Ragwort, Cantrip, and/or Hilary, for instance).

Piranesi - Susanna Clarke

Piranesi | Matthew Rose Sorenson

Ship likes: I don't have particularly strong ship leanings for this book. I do like to head canon Matthew/Piranesi as gay or bi, partly based on the admiration he has for Ketterley's looks!

I came away from this book utterly charmed by Piranesi and fascinated with the concept of the House. Susanna Clarke’s worldbuilding is just astounding, and I am eager to see it explored even deeper in fic (what IS the House really? How was it created, and when? What are in the other halls we don’t get to see? How did the others die? Are there other worlds that the House leads to?). I love all the poetic descriptions of the House in the book and the themes of finding meaning and beauty among loneliness. I also adore Piranesi’s exuberant air of scientific inquiry and childlike wonder and would be happy to see more of that (including his endearing diary entries). I’m curious about the type of person Matthew Rose Sorenson was and to what extent he “revives” after Piranesi leaves the House.

Possible ideas:

- Matthew/Piranesi upon his return to the "real" world and reuniting with his friends and family. How does he react to having to reintegrate into an entirely different world, one that he only faintly remembers? How does the outside world react to his re-emergence?

- Matthew during his first days in the House, as he gradually begins losing his memories of his past life, acquaints himself with the House, and “becomes” Piranesi.

- Matthew and James Ritter bonding over their shared experiences and trauma (of both being trapped in and forced to leave the House).

- Matthew and Raphael going on an expedition through the House together.

- Anything exploring the world and history of the House! I'd really love to read about even more magical elements.

After reading Swordspoint and The Privilege of the Sword, I found these characters and their relationship utterly and morbidly fascinating, particularly their intense loyalty/codependency towards each other (and general amorality towards everyone else)!
Possible ideas:
- A story about how Richard and Alec met and got together.
- Any story about their relationship set between Swordspoint and The Privilege of the Sword before Richard and Alec's breakup, or at the end of The Privilege of the Sword when they have run off together.
- Richard discovering and coming to terms with his blindness.
- A pre-Swordspoint story after Richard and Alec have moved in together and are adjusting to their new relationship and to each other.
- Alec’s visits to Richard at Highcombe (with lots of angst and/or hurt/comfort).
- The first time Richard killed for Alec (and Alec's reaction to it).
- Hurt/comfort fic with Richard taking care of Alec, or vice versa.

Better Call Saul
Jesse Pinkman/Ignacio "Nacho" Varga

When I watched Better Call Saul, I was struck by all the parallels between Nacho and Jesse and always wished they could have met to bond over their traumatic experiences (and run away together!). So I would love a story where they crossed paths and had some sort of romantic/sexual encounter or relationship. Feel free to go AU/fix-it with this to make the premise work, or even introduce some magical resurrection or time travel plot to bring Nacho back somehow!
Possible ideas:
- Canon-divergent AU where Nacho doesn't die (or comes back from the dead) and manages to escape from the cartel and start a new life, in Alaska...years later, he comes across another young man who has just done the same, and they begin a relationship. :D
- While in Mexico cooking meth for the cartel, Jesse comes across the blue flower that grew at the site of Nacho's death, and is visited by Nacho's ghost (or is it a drug-induced hallucination?).
